Harin Amirthanathan


Harin pursues a multi-faceted career as a singer, choral conductor, designer and educator. He received degrees from the Northumbria University, Newcastle and the Royal Schools of Music, London.

He is currently the choral director of the Colombo Philharmonic Choir, and Chorus master of the CMSC. He is also an associate member of the Royal School of Church Music (UK).

In Summer 2019, he received the prestigious Ellen Battell-Soeckel Fellowship for choral conducting at the Yale School of Music to attend masterclasses with Simon Carrington, Therese Murray, Beat Schaefer, and David Hill. This enabled him to perform at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival 2019, at Yale.

In New York, he attended masterclasses and performed with organist and choral conductor, Kent Tritle.

Harin's seasonal engagements with the CMSC includes the Sailor in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas (2018), Baritone soloist in the Faure Requiem (2019), and performing a selection of Scottish Songs by Beethoven at the inaugural Beethoven concert for the Beethoven250 year (2020).

He takes great pride and pleasure in his outreach choral  projects at St. John's College, Jaffna and Negombo, constantly striving to raise the standards of choral music in Sri Lanka..
